The Joel Becker Moment
Pardon me, I’m taking a short cut on This Week’s Top Scrooge…I’m handing over the commentary by republishing Michelle Malkin’s piece “Another Great Moment in Public Education”.
This week, I struggled about whether to pick the husband who bit off his wife’s lip after she called him short or the father who stuck his baby daughter in the microwave (both are doing OK apparently).
But you know evil is not a pleasant or funny thing and so I decided to chose a topic that’s important, but lighter fare.
I chose to give the dishonor of Top Scrooge to a UCLA professor, who as a guest speaker at a Boulder High assembly, told students its OK to have sex and do drugs “appropriately”.
Yes, Joel Becker, you are This Week’s Top Scrooge!

I think it's safe to say that we as a nation have been traumatized, victimized, and fearful of being held captive by Paris Hilton for the rest of our lives.
Please, Paris darling, let us go. You are really 'hot' and everything...I mean apparenty to someone out there you are hot. Not to anyone I know personally. But quit manipulating us. Quit taking up our space...you space cadet.
Is it our fault or yours that we have such an obsession with you?
I think it's yours...so, you are This Week's Top Scrooge. Like, sorry, I hope you don't think that's not hot. You know how you first thought it was not cool to go to jail and now you think it's hot.

Now on satellite, radio jocks Opie and Anthony hit lower

Freedom is a wonderful thing. Even the freedom to make mistakes can sometimes serve as an opportunity to learn. It’s something not to be taken for granted.
Apparently shock jocks Opie and Anthony took their freedom to make a live on-air mistake, and their company’s freedom to fire them, and pulled another bonehead move in their new jobs on satellite radio.
On Wednesday they “joked” about raping Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice — over the satellite aire waves.
Not funny. I used to think “shock jocks” was kind of a cute tag. No more. To me, shock jocks, will forever be code for radio characters “reaching for the lowest common denominator…and then going lower.”

This Week's Top Scrooge - May 4, 2007

There are some stories I just can’t shake. Even if they do fall back into the recesses of my brain, it takes some time.
While scanning the web for news on This Week’s Top Scrooge…it’s those stories, the ones which define evil in a way maybe not heard before or maybe just plain scary that I decide to feature. While some acts of scroogery we can have a little fun with, this one doesn’t fit in that category.
How big a part do drugs play in this story out of Toledo, Ohio? Probably a lot. The lead paragraph alone is frightening enough:
